I bought a VAD-04 strictly for travel and light use. The day I bought it I paid a visit to United Airlines. As I was walking up to the counter the clerk said that he had seen these before and that there was no problem taking it on as carry-on. .I think that this is a great value and a nice sounding piece All in all it is a winner in my book. I’ve heard less sound from much more expensive instruments. I may mike it because I think it compares to my Taylor 814ce and Breedlove it surprised me!

If a would-be buyer is an experienced player or dedicated student with a need to keep a guitar nearby regardless of location, there's no worry the Voyage-Air will let them down when it's time to strum.

I tested my VAD-04 and backpack on our family’s recent trip to Toronto.  Our flight was with Air Canada and had no issues checking in or fitting it in the overhead compartment.   The guitar worked great! Everyone loved it and said it sounded great.  We added a sound pickup so we could plug it into an amp. If you’re traveling and want to take your guitar with you this is the one you need.  They are very reasonable priced and make a great sounding guitar too. Made from the toughest engineered tonewoods, this guitar is rugged and durable, yet gives up nothing in tone and playability to my more expensive Dreadnoughts.

My main acoustic is a Voyage Air VAD-04. They are amazing sounding and projecting guitars for the $$, and IMO incredible value guitars, that have the bonus of convenient traveling. I would have been satisfied with either one, but thanks to my wife contributing a major part of the cost for my birthday present, I went for the VAD-04. Since getting mine, it I've taken it on a trip to Argentina, two trips to Brazil, Nevada City, CA, Reno, Denver, and other weekend trips. I haven't noticed any change in the neck relief or action, and the hinge is super sturdy and precise. When I'm on trips, it stays unfolded in the super well designed and functional travel case, except when I take it out to play. At home, I keep it unfolded, ready to play, in a Gator Brand semi-rigid case, but it only takes a few seconds to fold/unfold, so it's not that inconvenient to use the travel case. It's my favorite guitar to play.

The Voyage-Air guitar plays VAD-04 as well and sounds and looks as good as or better than many fixed-built guitars in the same price range.

This guitar folds in half for travel! That makes it a 10 right there because no other full-size Dreadnought does this.

Owner Testimonials

  • This is a beautiful sounding instrument. It has a distinct sound of its own and that in and of itself is extremely attractive. The finish and construction of the instrument is of a high standard.

Gerry G - VAD-04LH with a LR BAGGS Element VTC pickup

  • I have been a pro guitar tech for over 40 years now. I have a vaom-04 in my personal arsenal that I’ve had about 4 years. I absolutely love it. It’s been on several airlines in the overhead and on many trips by car. The gig bag is great too as it holds all the 04’s gear (soundhole pup, tuner, strings, picks, etc.) And also clothes and some suitcase items for an overnight. It’s like a piece of luggage that happens to have a guitar in it as well. Very cool!

    Dean - VAOM-04

  • The action is the same as my Taylor 514 CE, so my practice is undisturbed on the road. The sound is also very good for the price. I think I have one of your less expensive models, but it sounds quite good. Thanks for making such a great guitar.

    Jim N. - VAOM-02

  • I am extremely happy with the guitar. I can’t believe how good it sounds and its overall playability. The pick up you installed  is incredible . Amplified it sounds way better than my Takamine which was considerably more expensive.

    Phil C. - VAD-04 w/ Stage Pro Anthem

  • Unzip the case, unfold his Voyage-Air guitar, lock the neck in place...and then play the guitar without even retuning -- all in the matter of about two minutes! The guitar played in nearly perfect tuning and the tone was stunning. In that instant I was hooked. The timing of my discovery of the Voyage-Air guitar could not have been better.

    Karl D. - VAOM-04LH

  • My first impressions are this is an excellent instrument, even compared to my Martin, with a good tone across the range. I have capo’d to the 7th fret and found the tuning remains accurate. I am amazed at how light it is, which will be a bonus when taking on plane trips.

     Brad C. - VAD-04
